Yes, that's right. Your girl over here has joined the realm of TikTok. And I gotta say, it is definitely not what I expected it to be. The TikTok videos shared on other social media platforms are what I can describe as mainstream. Most people close to me have referred to these videos as cringy.

Believe me, there is a whole other world inside this app. There are creators who are funny. There are creator who are empowering. There are creators who are humbling. And there are creators who bring the best vibes. In the past three months that I've been on TikTok, I have found a peace of mind in a few videos that have come across my For You page. I follow some extraordinary content makers on there and they make the bad days good. They make me smile, laugh and cry happy tears. They are unashamed to share their struggles, their triumphs, their stories, their true selves with the whole world. Although at times they mask their flaws with humor and as someone who knows what that's like, I appreciate these people even more.
There was one creator in particular that really solidified my impression of TikTok. I was drawn in by the gorgeous green eyes and ridiculously amazing hair but stayed for the dorkiness and positive vibes. This guy is one hundred percent great energy. I admire him for his candor, his confidence and how supportive he is of those who look to him for advice. This beautiful human being is Nate Porter. He is the bassist of a Wisconsin metal band called Archers (they are amazing - definitely check them out. Links below).
His content is so entertaining but his Live streams are where it's at. It is like you're really hanging out with your friends, having deep and meaningful conversations and a bloody good laugh that comes right from the soul. Our little community, or Archers Army, took our new found friendships to Discord (created by the ever so awesome, Molly). This Discord is our safe space where we can talk openly and support each other whenever we're not feeling too great. I love these amazing nerds. They are so wonderful and positive and so accepting.
All in all, I only have this to say:
Dear Porter ,
There aren’t enough words in any language to express my gratitude for what you have brought into my life. I bet you didn’t imagine how your video would have impacted a stranger forever.
You are a gorgeous human being, inside and out. Your authenticity and sincerity has brought the much needed clarity that has been missing in my life since the beginning of the year.
I have been struggling with self-doubt these past few months, along with a loss of purpose and self-worth. The only thing I’ve been hearing this year is “no” and I believe you know how much that little word can weigh on a person. In the last month since I started following you on TikTok, everything started to get better. I felt joy from watching your videos, I started smiling more and suddenly things didn’t seem so bad.
Then I watched your Live for the first time and it was as if my optimism decided to come out of hiding and make itself comfortable again. You welcomed us into your life. You were honest with us. You offered us comfort, you empathized with us when we shared our struggles, and you gave us a safe space to be ourselves without fear of rejection. I enjoy your Lives because it is a reminder that there is still kindness in the world.
You, Nate Porter, brought a group of strangers from all over the world together and created a strong, loving and supportive community that makes me feel like I’m at home.
Thank you, Porter, for being your adorable, fantastic, magical, panda loving self. Thank you for opening up your heart and life to us. And thank you for helping us find each other.
(And thank you, Molly, for creating a platform for all of us to hang out and be who we are).
TikTok isn’t what is seems. It’s so much more.
