Collide: Part 4 - Impact

It’s been a week.
Aizlyn had not seen Jase since
That morning in the elevator.
Life had continued as normal;
Bleak and dark.
She spent the weekend in bed.
Anubis by her side as she cried.
The turbulent waves of emotion rocked her body,
Paralyzing her.
Why won’t this stop?
Anubis held his head hard up against hers,
Trying his best to calm her,
His poor human.
His purrs intensified,
Soothing her, centering her.
Aizlyn reaches for her feline friend,
Holds him gently to her chest,
Fearing how empty it would be
Without him.
I love you, dear friend.
Purr purr purr.
She can’t remember when it started,
The violent attacks.
The paralysis.
An unforgiving parasite with claws in her so deep.
She feels like she’s had it her whole life.
The mood swings that come and go as they please.
The loneliness that lingers because of it.
It might be the dishonesty.
The fact that Aizlyn has to put on a façade.
To pretend like everyone else.
In reality, everyone wants to be in denial;
Going about like everything is ok.
Nobody wants to know the truth.
But that day,
At the elevator.
She didn’t want to lie anymore.
She was tired and in physical pain.
It was taking its toll.
Why did he keep staring at me?
She places a soft kiss between Anubis’ ears.
Thank you, kitty.
Thank you for always bringing me back.
Purr purr purr
On the other side of the city,
Another restless soul was churning.
Jase was thinking of her.
The lady from the elevator.
She haunted him.
The way she held herself,
The way she seemed to be carrying
The weight of the world on her back.
A face so beautiful,
Her eyes filled with such sadness.
Jase lived quite an enjoyable life.
He was the sociable type.
Never a man without a story to tell,
Or a laugh to share.
He has his stressors like everyone else.
But never had he met a soul who looked so troubled.
He was curious.
He hadn’t known great sadness.
Not out of the obligatory loss of a relative
Or friend.
You were supposed to be sad for such things.
Her anguish was different.
The sullen air around her felt static,
Heavy and bereft.
It felt permanent.
Jase locks his fingers together,
Resting his face against his hands.
He stares out the window,
The long awaited storm roaring outside,
Rain streaming down the glass.
Aizlyn. What grieves you so?
